For instance, the Hit the Ground Running memo creating a strategic plan for success at an internship was the best exam I have ever taken, because I turned it into a cover letter when applying to internships!
By learning more about my unique qualities and how to express them persuasively, I was able to create a cover letter like no other. It was actually a cover strategy (the first line literally says, “You are not reading a cover letter. This is actually a cover strategy”) describing concrete actions I could take to contribute as an intern. I crossed my fingers and sent the letter out to my favorite agencies, a risk I wouldn’t have taken if I hadn’t been inspired by David Novak to break through the clutter. Like magic, I got interviews with Ketchum, FleishmanHillard, Cramer-Krasselt, Burson-Marsteller, MullenLowe, and Carmichael Lynch Relate (which was especially cool because Carmichael was the agency I originally wrote about in my memo).
