The Minor in Leadership and Service provides essential skills designed to complement any major, providing students with practical, high-impact experiences that enhance classroom learning.
What you'll study
The minor is built around four components plus a culminating experience:
Leadership Communication (3 hours). Take our Strategic Communication Leadership course or choose from leadership communication courses offered by other schools and colleges.
Leadership Service Experience (3 hours). Apply your leadership skills through a community engagement project, civic leaders internship, global service, or an internship/practicum serving a nonprofit or civic organization.
Community Engaged Learning (3 hours). Take any course with a service-learning attribute to connect coursework with community impact.
Leadership Electives (6 hours). Choose any Novak course or select an elective from a wide range of disciplines including public affairs, communication, management, agricultural education, engineering, health sciences, and more.
Culminating Experience (1 hour). Reflect on your leadership development through an independent study in service learning.
Total: 16 credit hours.
