Biography
Randall Smith, BJ ’74, the Donald W. Reynolds Endowed Chair in Business Journalism, is a former newspaper editor and a former president of the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW).
Smith was a reporter and editor at two newspapers before joining The Kansas City Star in 1979, where he worked for 30 years. Smith rose to several senior news positions before moving to the business side as director of strategic development.
In his role as affiliate faculty for the Novak Leadership Institute, Smith teaches the Chancellor’s Leadership Class, which helps first-year students discover their leadership potential. In his own words: “The principles of leadership empower students with skills to navigate the challenges and complexities of college life.”
