Nick Blay, PhD, assistant teaching professor of biology, is a behavioral ecologist who studies natural and life history of organisms that are often overlooked or viewed as insignificant to promote an understanding of the importance of maintaining biodiversity.

Blay believes leadership education is central to science.

In his own words: Leadership education is incredibly important, especially in the sciences, because scientific leaders play a key role in guiding integrity and influencing public understanding of scientific research. With the rapid spread of misinformation, scientists must be prepared and equipped with the skills to identify and refute false or misleading claims. This helps preserve trust in science, ensures that policies are based on evidence, and promotes ethical decision-making. Leadership training helps build critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills, all of which are essential for addressing misinformation and guiding the scientific community responsibly.
